Oleksandr Usyk retains his IBF, WBA & WBO world heavyweight titles with another boxing masterclass - but Anthony Joshua deserves praise for his gutsy role in a great fight.

He praised his nemesis in a speech so emotional and as full of his journey through boxing and life as it was ripe with industrial language that it sound like a farewell. Hopefully not.

This Joshua, not the one in London 11 months ago, has lived to fight another ten years, if he wishes. There was pride, too. 'Hip, hip, hooray' he implored the crowd to salute Usyk, not least for going to war and coming back to fight. Hip, hip hooray for AJ.

Now Usyk wants the undisputed world title so badly that he says unless he is given a chance to take the WBC belt from Tyson Fury he may not fight again.

That would be a loss even more tragic than the 116-112 scorecard by a Ukrainian judge which gave his countryman the split-decision. The American had it 115-113 for Joshua. The English judge 115-113 to Usyk. There could not have been much arguing with those either way, although I gave it to Usyk.

It was a split decision, with the scorecards reading: 113-115 115-113 116-112
