Only one goal conceded and a three-game unbeaten start to the new Serie A (SA) season may seem solid enough, but Juventus fans might have expected more than just five points after the third round (W1, D2). They do at least have four more points than they had at this stage of last term, which should go some way to easing fears of repeating what ended up being the club’s first trophyless season since 2010/11.

Juventus are preparing for their third home league match this season (W1, D1) and will be aiming to emulate their performance from the opening round when they beat Sassuolo here 3-0. It could be easily done given they have won all four H2Hs since Spezia were promoted, with two of those arriving with a clean sheet.

A perfect defensive performance from the opening round when Spezia beat Empoli 1-0 was followed by conceding five goals in the next two outings (D1, L1) and Luca Gotti’s men may be worried of seeing more of the same here. However, with four points after the first three matches, Spezia are still enjoying their best-ever top-flight start.
However the visitors haven’t fared very well during their second league away outing since promotion to SA. They conceded a mammoth six goals at Lazio (1-6) on their second SA trip last term and didn’t fare much better in their debut season when losing against Milan (0-3) on their second trip too. A lonely win across their last eight SA away outings (D2, L5) doesn’t hint at an improvement on that here.

Players to watch: Dušan Vlahović’s incredible free kick for Juve against Roma was his fastest-ever SA career goal (76 seconds). He has also scored four goals against Spezia, three after half time. A primary task for Spezia defender Simone Bastoni will be to stop Vlahović, but interestingly he’s already registered a goal and an assist himself this season.
Hot stat: The home side on the day have had more corners than the opposition just once across all four SA H2Hs.
